The scans are light because I don't have Photoshop set up to make adjustments. Soon... sooooooon.

Oh Sketchymade. How I ignore you so. :(

I just finished a post at P5 Creative and started to feel bad for my own blog. Since I was obviously feeling wordy and ruminative - I THINK that's the word I'm looking for - I thought I'd turn my ministration onto this poor and lately unloved child. I don't really have much to show. What I have done I can't show or I don't have the right to show so instead y'all can have a nice ramble. That's what these f**kers are for right? Personal blogs: for people who either looooove to listen to themselves or think other people are listening. I like to consider myself more of a speaker waiting to be discovered. Very emo, I know.

So, I came across a blog that opened my eyes to things I've never considered in my attempts at drawing. It was educational while also completely flooring me. Johnson Cover Hi-Lo. So I thought I'd share. If I were to try and consider all or even one of these things I fear I'd never draw again because of how long it would take me to figure it out. I've heard it said before that I shouldn't try to be like other people and that I should just keep drawing and practicing but damn it! I want to be able to do and draw such thoughtful and creative stuff! I guess I'll try to take a lesson from it.

The holidays are upon the world and that means family time, food and gifts. Time to get creative. I'm looooong over due to make some cupcakes and I'm going to help make some homemade pies. Pumpkin and pecan to be precise. I've never made pecan pie before. Hell, I don't think I've done pumpkin yet either but how hard can it be? :) Too bad I won't be tasting the pecan pie. There is just something about nuts in my sweets that rubs me the wrong way. HA! That was a funny sentence if you read it in such a way. Where are my manners??? I also have a few crafty gifts in mind for some of my family members. I really need to get cracking on those however if I plan to get them done along with the illustrated children's safety book. So much to do so little time... ALWAYS!!!!!!!

I think I'll make tea and head to bed.

Ankle Sprain

I couldn't come up with a better title so that was it. Yes, my ankle hurts but no, it is not going to be the main subject of this post. I spent most of the weekend on my feet at Octoberfest pouring beer with One Brick. I swore I wouldn't do that event again but I was a little more laid back this time rather than stressing so it wasn't as bad. It's fun to see just how much beer I pour over the course of a few hours each shift and to help One Brick earn a large chunk of their funding for the year, but overall Octoberfest doesn't hold much for me. The food is pretty simple - and meaty - and I just don't drink THAT much! Anyway, I had a much better time this year and will consider it again when that time rolls around next year.

Stuff I need to get done include a business card re-design, bill paying, re-do 24 Hour Comic Day 2011 comic, a couple of tattoo design which need more discussion, paint some walls, finish a skirt, clean the bathroom, scuttle around and perhaps play with the cat because she seems a bit bored. Perhaps a hamster in a ball is in order. Heh, I'm so mean.

I just watched "Drive" last night a really enjoyed it. I have a new found respect for Ryan Gosling, it may be female driven but whatever. I liked his character and the movie despite its cheesy gore, pregnant pauses, 80's feel and strange mix of humor and seriousness. Check it out, let me know what you think.

Now for some fan art. A new book, The Strange Talent of Luther Strode from Image Comics, has got some cool new art and a story worth following. Check this out as well! The book, not just the art - which is unfinished.

Well, guess that ramble is over. It puttered out quicker than I thought it would.

drawMechanics has re-formed into P5 Creative! Please check out the new site, new art and all that jazz! Here are some well written blurbs...

[VINCENT]: In case you haven't heard the studio formerly known as draw:MECHANICS has now been revamped, rejiggered, and reborn as the [P5]CREATIVE. Welcome to our new home! It's a little messy as we're still moving. Hope you don't mind.

We'll leave all the gory details of the change to the dusty annals of history. What's most important now is that with death comes new life and, I believe, we have that in spades. We're still the same old cartoonists, designers, and creative beasts we always were, but, with hard lessons learned and renewed energy, we're moving forward to the future.

One thing we're going to try and focus on in our new clothes is more and regular posts to our online home. To that end, some of us have staked our claim to particular days of the week. On that day we'll post. What will we post? It could be anything. What we're working on at the moment, our thoughts on the day, a mini-review of what we're reading or watching at the time (like how the heck did DC actually pull of their universe reboot and make it work?). You never know what you're going to get. So, keep coming back and we'll keep giving you new things to look at and/or ponder.
The studio title "P5" comes from the tools that we all use in creating: pencils, pixels, paint, pens, and paper. It also refers to the number of the founders of this little group. Double meaning, see? Aren't we clever?

Our hope with the studio and the new blog is to build up our creative strengths as well as our experience together in this industry. We span a wide variety of styles, but have come together out of our mutual respect for each other and our creative visions. Take a look at our blog, share it with your friends and family. We'll be posting regularly the things that we're working on, so please bookmark us and keep coming back. We've got a lot in store for y'all!

24 Hour Comic Day - 2011

Thankfully Fantastic Comics was around to host this event. Not as many people as last year but I'm glad I got to do it and I'm not even feeling too tired. Oh but the most important part - I finished 24 pages... mostly. Some of them look like crap but this is one story I do plan on cleaning up and finishing. I thought I'd post the ones I could scan (some pages are 9" x 12" and the others are 11" x 17") with my regular sized scanner before I continue working on them. Please forgive the fact that not all the pages are there and that they are therefore out of order. Soon enough because I love the idea of this being a finished product. This story will be dedicated to Katie and Michael Bryant. Onward!

Yay! He's done! I've been staring at the blank Kracka Munny for a few months now, I think. Finally I just dived in. I knew I wanted to make it into a horse but what better character to do than my own... who may surface sometime in the future! (fingers crossed!) I realize now that the little green globes on his belt may not look so much like the hand (hoof) grenades they are meant to be. Oh well.

I was asked for 2 cool commissions when I was at Emerald City Comic Con. I don't know if I have permission to post the last one I did but here's the one I did for a guy who had just discovered long lost family and was now an uncle. Here are my first "professionally" made cupcakes. Meaning I was hired to make them for a bridal party. They were a hit and there were a lot leftover not just at the party but at my house. Sigh, I guess I know what's for dinner! Good thing I never tire of cupcakes!!

Cupcakes supplies. I bought the lime because they were key. Get it? But it turned out that I wasn't supposed to be making key lime cupcakes. :'(

RED and some bird talk

So I saw RED over the weekend and really loved it. I really connected with Helen Mirren's character. The cooking, the baking the occasional contract hit. And who doesn't love a lady who can pull off a white evening gown with combat boots? So here is a quick sketch I did of her. Researching guns for drawing is a bit disturbing and it is the real reason I don't know how to draw guns or do it very often. I fear I'll be put on some government watch list. And if the government is reading this I swear IT'S ONLY FOR DRAWING RESEARCH!!! ^_^

I've also been feeling a bit down lately and lacking in the energy department. Trying to keep busy - and doing a decent job, I think - but there is little drive to get up in the morning and the tantrums my mind throws as my body drags itself out of bed are incredible. Okay, they aren't that bad but suffice to say some days I don't want to get out of my PJs. Um, not like that's today or anything.

24 Hour Comic Day

This was the first time I participated in this event. It was a lot of fun and I learned a LOT! I got 24 pages sketched out but not completely done. I only put a few pages up because the scans don't show them very well. I look forward to doing 24 Hour Comic Day again as well as more sequential art on my own. BTW, my comic has a twist ending! OooOoooooOOoooo!! It's not THAT interesting but it's some incentive for me to finish it so I can share it.

Personal Projects - Day 2 & 3

So yesterday was not as productive as it could have been maybe. But I did get some stuff done. I applied for some random game illustrator job, did some laundry and grocery shopping, baked way too many cupcakes (honey flavored, which I've decided I don't really like) and even got a little coloring in. Oh, and I started a massive puzzle. Why? Because I've decide to skip straight to old-ladyhood.

These little lovelies are Vince's sketches but I felt like coloring something so I set my had to them. Not as detailed but I've got something else in the works.

Today's plan: to not be distracted by the puzzle (it is sooooo tempting), get some coloring done, find scanner/printer power cable, perhaps sketch, visit the Neon Monster comic store and perhaps deliver some cupcakes (if only to get rid of them faster). Laundry done? Check. Major walk? Check. Walked dogs? Check. Shower? Um ....

Post EA Contract - Day 1

But first I must plan a bit. I hope to keep track of my progress each day (HOPEFULLY, is the key word) as I work towards a few personal goals and another EA contract.

Post Comic-Con 2010

Back from another Comic-Con! I can honestly say that this was THE first time I bought absolutely nothing. But as always I enjoyed the company of my friends and the passion and inspiration all around me. All I want to do is draw, too bad work gets in the way! But we all need to eat.

I met Sean Patrick Flanery from "The Boondock Saints" (EEEEEEE! But I totally kept my cool!), saw Lucy Lawless from a short distance, Colin Ferguson from an even shorter distance and the icing on the cake was meeting Phil LaMarr. I was just a little short on cash to buy a signed photo but I got to tell him what big fan I was and what great work he did and even shook his hand. Thankfully I had just washed them so they didn't feel like a typical grubby con-goer's hands. Not that I EVER do! ^_^

When I got back I came home to a scary sight. My cat's cheek was swollen. After a tiring 2 hour trip home I have to admit that I lost it just a bit. Ok, a lot. But thankfully she is fine and just as feisty as ever when I try to give her her medicine.

So the slowest move in the world is keeping me from using my scanner. I also don't want to admit to laziness. Honestly thought, it's more busy-ness that's keeping me away from drawing and coloring and scanning. That should all change in a few weeks when my contract at EA is up.

Anyway, I just thought I check in with a very minimal number of thoughts. I hope to be back SOON with actual art.

I never did thank the Mircon Pen spokespeople for coming around at W0ndercon 2010 and supporting the budding artists. They were also very kind in giving me a whole new pack of fancy artist/cartooning pens as well as pen case with a few other random pens. I felt very loved and very lucky. They are some bad ass pens! You know what I want? A pocket scanner. No, not to scan the contents of my pocket but rather a compact scanner that I can use anywhere to scan my random sketches. This would allow me to share these sketches quickly, from where I'm at (and when I'm thinking of it) and they would be ready to digitally paint. Preferably a wireless one too! I have many other wishes but I thought I'd just throw that out there in case anyone wanted to create an invention for me for the holidays. Hee hee! Oh, and I also like this poster!

Hearts, Birds and Pillow Case Shirts

Some more crafty bits completed! YAY! The birds and hearts are made with felt, random buttons and embroidery thread. OH! And the stuffing is made from the left over bits of felt cut up into tiny pieces and stuffed inside. I'm so into using every little scrap! The shirt is pretty plain but, yes, it is made from am old pillow case. I have so many old but cool ones and I've been looking for something to use them for. I hope to work on a more interesting design so that I might be able to work on shirts for others! Sorry boys, the boxers will be out next year. Hmmm, that's not a bad idea! ^_^

I have discovered a new passion. CARD MAKING! It makes me ever so happy. But it is time consuming and requires a lot of space to spread out in. Time I've got but I still lack the proper desk space. Oh well, you can't squash a chance to have fun and make pretty things!

This was a bowl I made for mother's day. The process needs some, uh, refining. :/ I only followed some of the directions. Make strips of paper, roll them, flatten them, glue them together in the shape of a bowl (which was the hard part!)

I know, shameless advertising ... I did a little temp work at EA (Electronic Arts) on the Sims3 project and as it wrapping some of the art I worked on is now being shown. I was responsible for creating and texturing some Sim characters to be used in the ads as well as the videos. Check out the NY Times Article here!

Felt like drawing something a little sexy. The sketch before this was, well, lets call it a warm up (and NOT posted, sorry). Playing with prismacolors that I got all the way back when I first started college. They still work! Plus my toned sketchbook and a white out pen I got ages back from my good friend Vince. I missed the last Sketchcrawl in S.F. and I was really regretting it (although I did do some good volunteering and getting to rock climb again - for free). So I am attempting - once again - to get into it with drawing on more than one occasion a week ... or sometimes months. Isn't that sad? I was told that if I really want to draw I should just do it. I should do it all the time as much as I can. If I really want it I should give up all else and (ignoring "Nike") just do it. Trying to ... I don't even know why I say that. I really should just grab the bull by the horns. >_<

As a California girl snow is quite rare for me. So when visiting my mother in Colorado during the winter I got to make my first snowman! I know, it's sad to be this old and have never made a snowman before. Anyway, I did it all by myself and had no problems at all ... of course, he is only 7 inches tall!
